Easter in Arequipa

It was Sunday, a Sunday of Glory, the last day of the traditional celebrations that included an Easter Parade during the Holy Week.

We have visited a plaza in the Cayma district to see the funny and traditional 'Quema de Judas" (Judas Burned). Penintents vent their anger by the burning of effigies of Judas in two of the town's plazas. It started at 6am and the speech man read the Judas's statement before he got burned which is sarcastic.

After Judas was burnt in Cayma Church.

NOW AT THE SAME TIME, ANOTHER 'QUEMA DE JUDAS' - YANAHUARA CHURCH.

Yanahuara district, another traditional "Quema de Judas".

Part of the Yanahuara church.

We ended up with the special Sunday breakfasts -> Adobo Arequipeño, a sort of pork braised in maize beer and spices.... mmmm!

Maria Elena and I, after the traditional feast.
